Wondering About That $450 Grand Prize?

July 2nd, 2010 by veronica

You may have noticed that one of our most valuable prizes for this year’s Veggie Hot Dog Eating Contest is a $450 Resolution Garden.  But what exactly is a Resolution Garden?

Resolution Gardens, a project of Austin Green Art, is keeping the community healthy and boosting Austin’s green-economy with their far from ordinary veggie patches.  They offer a variety of customizable packages, including Yard Farms which allow the owner to contribute to the local food supply and make a little extra cash, in addition to the signature raised beds similar to the one our Grand Prize Winner will receive.  They install the garden for you, and you can even rent-a-gardener for weekly maintenance.

The iLoveMikeLlitt team stopped by the Austin Green Art and Resolution Gardens workshop this week to check out their various projects.  One of the programs, Viva Verde, puts at-risk youth to work in partnership with Goodwill, and we were lucky enough to meet some of the students on their last day.  We also got to witness some of that famous yard work in action among their eye-catching outdoor art and one impressive compost pit.

You can see their handy work at Wheatsville Co-op, join their group on Facebook, or contact Randy@ResolutionGardens.com to make an appointment for a consultation.
