Thanks to everyone who came out to our first bar crawl!  It could very well be the only crawl in history to have promoted the Keynesian model of mixed economics with an original pomegranate juice and vodka cocktail dubbed the Mixed Economy!

Joined by our friends at the Encyclopedia Show, we visited four local establishments, the Volstead Lounge, the Gypsy Lounge, the Yellow Jacket Social Club, and Cheer Up Charlies on Saturday, July 23^rd from 10 pm – 2 am.

The Volstead Lounge and Cheer Up Charlies added the Mixed Economy to their menus this summer as part of the IDENTITY PROJECT, our collaborative art event in June that explored new ways of marketing ideas and social issues.  The Mixed Economy was our submission to the show where free samples of the cocktail were served.

The Volstead added their own twist, bringing Maine Root Ginger Brew into the mix.  And they also served Mixed Economy Snow Cones!

The socially-minded drink aims to spur discussion and increase support for Keynesian thought.  Bar crawlers received Mixed Economy recipe cards with info on both the drink and economic model.  We also made bow ties out of dollar bills and played some Keynesian trivia

“Maybe one day the Mixed Economy will join the ranks of other popular drinks such as the Cape Cod and the Greyhound.  People will be talking about and enjoying a mixed economy everywhere!” said Cheer Up Charlies owner Tamara.

Throughout February, participating local HONK!TX bands will be visiting Farmers Markets and other locations across Austin!

Next Saturday, the Academicos do Opera, aka Austin Samba School, will bring Rio to the Downtown Farmers Market at Republic Square Park.

The band will go on around Noon and the HONK!TX crew will be out and about promoting the festival. HONK!TX volunteers are encouraged to join us and help spread the word.

All you locavores should come out, grab your weekly crop of veggies and artisanal dairy products, and enjoy some homegrown brass bursting with nutrients!

There.  I said it.

So, you can only imagine how happy it makes me to be invited to B.E.T.C.H. Presents…Breakfast House!! Number Two!!

Yes, that is the real name of the event, and YES you should RSVP your sweet, fine self.

Here are the Deets:

This time around, we’re teaming up with Pancake Breakfast (a new food cart opening in March)! Expect delicious food – including buttermilk pancakes, maple syrup, scrambles, vegan options, drinks, and coffee. Low $1-$5 prices! Come support B.E.T.C.H. and Pancake Breakfast!

The event will be at Rio Rita (my favorite, YES favorite, coffee shop) on E. 6th St. and Navasota St. This Sunday, February 20 from 11:00am - 3:00pm.
